Viking 40 Year Anniversary Artwork: Mars Past, Present, Future

Artwork commemorating the 40th anniversary of NASA's Viking 1 and 2 missions to Mars. Each had an orbiter and lander pair. The Viking 1 Orbiter arrived at Mars on June 19, 1976; the Viking 1 Lander was the first to touch down on Mars on June 20, 1976. The Viking 2 Orbiter arrived at Mars on August 7, 1976; the Viking 2 Lander successfully touched down on September 3, 1976. Also shown are Mars rover Curiosity, actively exploring Mars on the Viking 40th anniversary, and an artist’s concept of NASA’s Mars 2020 rover.
